About the UAC - Ultimate Angler Challenge

We have been fishing for many years and here's where the Ultimate Angler Challenge Series came from.

For many years we have fished walleye, bass, catfish, and many other fish tournaments, contests and fishing leagues.  After fishing with a small fishing league in Duluth, we started a multispecies fishing league of our own.  At that time it was called the TGIF Fishing League, TGIF stood for Thank God I'm Fishing.  That was in 1999 and we had many teams shortly after that.

Later we changed our name to the Minnesota Multispecies Tournament Series (MMTS) and started the website http://www.multispecies.com/ to keep all our members up to date with standings and to chat about fishing with all our friends.  We are still based in Duluth, Minnesota and have had to split into smaller groups to lower the need for DNR permits and to avoid placing too much pressure on our fisheries.

We have worked our fish scoring system all the way along and we regularly review and debate the results.  We try to keep the system based on "difficulty of catch" and the "availability of the fish" in our waters.  We think we have a pretty good scoring system now.

One thing we did learn is that there are many groups of anglers that fish in leagues and contests for many different reasons.  Most love some competition and enjoy it.  Some want to fish just a few fishing tournaments but for bigger prizes / awards (like a tournament series), some just want a commitment to get out fishing every week or two, (like a fishing league).  While many anglers were some place in between.  We wanted to make fishing opportunities available for everyone and to get as many anglers at want to fish, out fishing more.  So we are working to get more fishing leagues going AND why we are offerring a tournament series for those that want competition or another excuse to get out fishing.

The Ultimate Angler Challenge is a part of that plan.  This is the top level fishing tournament series to see WHO is the Ultimate Angler / Ultimate Fishing Team, in this case.  In this challenge you need to catch QUALITY fish and hopefully quick enough and in quantities to fill your bag limit.  Of course, you still have to get to the other species too, to get the multispecies bonuses.  That requires clock management, great fishing skills, timing on your bites, planning the stops and getting back to the landing within the 4 hour tournament time schedule.  Believe me, this will be the fastest 4 hours of fishing you'll ever experience.  Also the greatest and most fun.

A little luck would be nice too.  We have seen people pull up to their favorite hole and do well, even win many times.  So you never know who is going to win.  But over the course of a season you learn who can fish under different weather conditions, on different bodies of water, for many different species, find the best bites available on that water, and consistently catch quality fish in quantities.  That's an Ultimate Angler.

As anglers ourselves, we do all we can to protect the great fishing resources and work with the Minnesota DNR to cover all bases.  We set the minimums to make these tournaments challenging, while keeping the bags lower to lower the risks to the fish.  We also make sure you have several places to verify your fish anytime during the contest.  That gets them out of your livewells and back into the water sooner, keeping the fish healthy.

We know this is going to be a great fishing tournament series and hope you give it a shot.  We're sure you'll love it too.

This is our first year, but our goal is to make this the most exciting tournament series for anglers.  We hope to get more people out fishing in fishing leagues and getting kids out fishing.

We have started working with Area Youth Agencies to introduce kids to fishing and it's been a great success.  We'ld like to find other anglers to do the same in their communities.

If you are interested in our fishing leagues here are a couple to check out.  The Minnesota Multispecies Tournament Series is a multispecies fishing league and the Duluth Area Bass League is a bass fishing league.  Both are in the Duluth Minnesota area and can be found at http://www.multispecies.com/

If you have an idea for a fishing league OR want to start your own, we will help you and even get your fishing league online, for FREE.  Just talk to our tournament directors.

OR if you want to help us with our "Take a Kid Fishing Days", please contact us.

Thanks and good fishing,

Ultimate Angler Challenge Staff
